As our Grilling Season ’13 series continues, we’ve covered how to safely setup your grill and even how to effectively use it. Grilling provides many joys but one of the things that nobody looks forward to is the clean up. After using a grill there is nothing worse then having a nasty clean up process that makes you think twice about using it when needing a meal. Fortunately, we’ve provided a list of things you can do to prevent clean up from becoming a nightmare. To ensure that cleanup is as easy as possible, we’ve shared with you some helpful tips from our friends at HPBA.

  • Use non-stick spray to cut down the clean-up time afterwards. Apply this spray to the grates on the grill to make sure that your food isn’t sticking to them and so you won’t have a charred mess once you’re done cooking.
  • If you’re using a charcoal grill, line the bowl with aluminum foil. This will obviously reduce the amount of food that touches the grill itself and allow you to pick up the aluminum foil after the grill cools, and discard it with thew coals and ash. You’ll still have to wash the grill, but you can assure yourself that you won’t need a chisel to get the food you just cooked off. This will save a ton of time and energy.
  • Make sure to always have a wire brush around at all times. Using a wire brush will allow you to scrub the grates once the grill has cooled. If you do not have a wire brush crumbled up aluminum foil will do but we advise you to purchase a wire brush to make your life easier.
  • Use grease-cutting dishwasher detergent on the grill and the grates once the grill has cooled. We recommend you scrub with a brush two times to make sure that any and all food products are gone and the grill is clean when being put away.
  • Nobody is a perfectly clean cook. For this we recommend placing a grill pad or splatter mat beneath the grill before you begin cooking. These mats or pads will protect your deck or patio from any grease that misses the drip pan and will allow you to bypass cleaning your deck because you grilled there.
  • Most importantly (and simply), make sure that your grill is as clean as possible once it has been given time to cool down. Any mess you make should be completely clean so that you can begin cooking as soon as possible for the next time you wish to use it.By simply following these steps one of the only un-enjoyable steps to grilling can be made easier. Please remember to never avoid cleaning your grill as it’s a necessary activity after every time grilling. It will make your food taste better by being cooked on a clean grill, and most importantly it will make your grill more efficient and last longer providing you more meals.
